Variety is the spice of life

“We want to offer a modern taste of Sweden – honest food for people and the planet.”
Michael La Cour, Managing Director, IKEA Food

”We wanted to add a really good vegetarian alternative on our menu. More and more people choose vegetarian alternatives for different reasons – some to help the planet, others for health reasons. Our goal was to create something as appreciated as the loved meatball, but without animal content.” says Annika Dunnico, IKEA Food Product Developer and Project Leader.

Rich colour, great taste, fine texture. Seaweed pearls make delicious hors d’oeuvres, or a tasty way to liven up everything from pasta to pizzas.

Not so long ago, we decided to upgrade the whole concept of what food we should offer you at IKEA. So the successful launch of our vegetable balls in April 2015 marked a change of direction for us. Since then, we’ve been moving the IKEA food offer towards a wider offer of delicious, healthy and more sustainable food.

Brainfood, like you’ve never seen before

Pulled salmon sandwich - an exciting and nutritious salmon dish.

Since seafood is part of our Swedish heritage, we were quite excited about introducing our new pulled salmon sandwich. It’s traditional Scandinavian, yet with a modern twist. We use not only the fillets, but also other parts of the prime meat, using as much as possible of this beautiful fish. Perfect for pulled salmon and a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Healthy, responsibly sourced. And so delicious, we Scandinavians just didn’t feel right keeping it to ourselves.

An ocean full of flavour
SJÖRAPPORT is the seafood series from IKEA. The catch of the day, with salmon, shrimps and even seaweed pearls. Delicious. Healthy. Responsibly sourced. So just imagine the flavour. Discover the world’s hottest food items from its cold-water seas.

PÅTÅR special edition:

Uganda is the biggest coffee exporting country in Africa, yet the average size of a coffee farm is less than 0,25 hectares – just a quarter the size of a football field. It’s not easy to run a profitable farm with such small resources. To help support economic independence of farmers, as well as more sustainable farming practices, IKEA has teamed up with a regional coffee project. As a result, we’re now introducing our first ever single-origin coffee to the IKEA Swedish Food Market: 100% Arabica beans from the White Nile region. A special coffee with a unique taste, created in cooperation with thousands of small scale farmers.

You’re sweet enough already
We’ve cut the sugar content of our drinks in the IKEA Restaurants and IKEA Bistros in half, in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. Same goes for our ISTE BJÖRKSMAK range of iced-teas. Less sugar, more taste.

“The greatest motivation for the future is to be an even better place to get good food for the 650 million annual guests around the world.”

Michael La Cour, Managing Director, IKEA Food

The food journey continues

We’ll be visiting traditionally preserved Swedish foods. Environmentally friendly pickled, dried, and fermented vegetables. Super tasty, super healthy! And we’ll be making sure we make the most of those great parts of fish and chicken that are sometimes overlooked. Well, we can’t have so much taste, protein, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins going to waste. Stay hungry!
